Road trains are a simple but very effective solution that significantly increases the efficiency of goods transport. Geis uses these trains on its busiest routes. They make transporting shipments more economical and, what's more, more environmentally friendly.
Geis optimises transport on the main runs by using trailer technology on top of standard semi-trailers. Such special rigs, up to 26 metres long, significantly increase transport capacity. Unlike conventional 13.6 metre semi-trailers, these trailers can hold up to 60% more goods, which means that instead of the usual 33 pallet spaces (66 in the case of a double-decker trailer), the entire trailer has an additional 20 pallet spaces thanks to the trailer technology.
The economic and environmental advantages of road trains are obvious. Although trains are 15% more expensive to operate, the ability to transport a greater volume of goods leads to significant savings in fuel and toll costs. In addition, due to fewer journeys, the environmental impact also decreases, which is in line with increasingly stringent environmental standards, our Mission Zero sustainability strategy and client expectations.
We use road trains on our main routes, namely between Bratislava, Poprad, Prešov and Zvolen. These routes cover the most important logistics hubs and enable a smooth flow of goods. To ensure safety and smooth operation, this technology is deployed mainly at night, when traffic on the roads is less dense. As these are non-standard vehicles, a special permit from the Ministry of Transport, which is issued for specific routes, is required for their operation.
In order to optimise the entire transport process, the use of our own forwarding system is a matter of course. In addition, we are constantly developing new applications to further streamline transport operations.
