The Geis Group continues to expand and strengthen its position in the German market through two important acquisitions. As of 1 January 2025, Geis will take over all shares of its long-standing partner, the Gras Group, based in Neuwied near Koblenz. Shortly thereafter, from 1 April 2025, it will also take over two Krüger locations in Göttingen. The acquisitions strengthen the Geis Group's position in West and Central Germany and expand its position in the IDS network.
Expansion in West Germany - takeover of the Gras Group
The Gras Group operates five branches near Koblenz, Mannheim and Cologne, which will significantly strengthen Geis' presence in Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg. This move opens up new growth opportunities for Geis in these economically important regions and expands its position in the IDS network. The Gras Group employs a total of 470 people and achieved a turnover of €125 million in 2023.
The Gras Group's services are ideally combined with Geis' services and include transport solutions for supply and distribution, deliveries for companies and private customers, as well as contract and warehouse logistics. Gras and Geis are linked not only by their cooperation within the IDS Group since the 1980s, but also by their values as family-owned companies.
The five new branches will enable Geis to take on additional shipment volumes and contract logistics projects that will significantly complement its portfolio. At the same time, Gras Group customers will gain access to Geis' unique network in Central and Southeastern Europe and benefit from its emphasis on digitalization, automation, efficient processes and sustainability.
Strengthening in central Germany - acquisition of Krüger branches
Shortly after the acquisition of the Gras Group, Geis also further strengthens its position in central Germany with the acquisition of two Krüger branches in Göttingen. Krüger Internationale Spedition GmbH employs around 230 people in Göttingen and achieved a turnover of over €40 million in 2023. The portfolio of services includes regional, national and international road transport, air and sea transport and warehouse logistics services.
In addition, from January 2026 these branches will become part of the IDS network. Geis will thus replace the DSV branch in Baunatal, which will become vacant when DSV leaves the network on 31 December 2025, and will now serve twelve regions within IDS, Germany's largest groupage cooperation.
New perspectives and growth
Both acquisitions bring new opportunities for Geis Group customers, who will benefit from an even broader and more efficient service offering. The move also supports the growth of the entire group, opens up new opportunities for providing better services and strengthens the company's position in Germany and throughout Europe.
